BIONIC RESEARCH PROJECT– I
Our dedicated team has successfully published articles using groundbreaking research to advance Breast cancer early detection using AI assisted point of care technologies.

Using synthetic tissue to mimic real breast tissues and create realistic phantom models to support hands-on learning in ultrasound and phantom tissue training

IMPROVING EYE DIAGNOSIS PROJECT
At Validus we are exploring new and innovative methods to improve eye diagnostics in patients with inflammatory eye disease in collaboration with Oregon Health State University and Athreya MedTech
Evaluation of Orbital Ultrasonography in Patients with Inflammatory Eye disease including Grave’s Disease
Integrating AI‑Based Orbital Ultrasound with Tear Proteomic Biomarkers for Precision Diagnosis of Graves’ Orbitopathy (GO).
Our team published many articles and a book describing orbital inflammatory eye disease and optic neuropathy.

Majd Oteibi, MD, DHSc, MAS, CCRP, FRSPH Dr. Oteibi is the Founder and CEO of Validus Institute Inc. She has over 20 years of experience in clinical research, with a strong record of leading cross-disciplinary teams, securing multi-therapeutic partnerships, and delivering translational studies at the intersection of obstetrics, gynecology, women’s health, and biomedical engineering. Her current work focuses on developing innovative AI-assisted technologies for the early detection of breast cancer. She integrates advanced breast phantom models with AI-assisted point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinician training. Dr. Oteibi has published multiple peer-reviewed articles and has experience with NIH grant submissions. She also serves as a reviewer at multiple reputable scientific journals. She actively collaborates with clinicians, engineers, and academic researchers to translate laboratory innovations into clinical applications. Her research aims to reduce breast cancer metastasis and improve diagnostic access in low-resource settings and remote areas.
Beyond research, Dr. Oteibi is an associate professor at National University, where she teaches and mentors students in research methods, imaging, and evidence-based care. She is known for inspiring her students to think creatively and apply practical problem-solving skills in healthcare innovation. Dr. Oteibi is also an accomplished speaker, having presented nationally and internationally, where she shares her knowledge, including serving as a keynote speaker at the 2023 International Obstetrics & Gynecology Conference in Dubai.

Dr. Hadi Khazaei, MD, MCR, MS, is currently affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Portland State University and holds the position of Chief Medical Advisor at the Validus Institute Inc., where he serves as a research advisor. With over two decades of expertise in ophthalmology, Dr. Khazaei is a specialized orbital and oculoplastic surgeon from India and the author of a comprehensive book on orbital inflammatory disorders, underscoring his extensive medical knowledge. Dr. Khazaei’s current scientific work centers on developing advanced phantom models of the breast and eye to train ultrasound techniques integrated with artificial intelligence, combining his clinical experience with cutting-edge biomedical engineering. He has applied for grants through the NIH, contributed as a mentor in NIH workshops and bootcamps, and is active in academic conferences, giving talks and sharing his expertise on these innovative topics.

Dr. Kaneez Abbas, MBBS, has over 30 years of experience in the medical field. With a long history in healthcare administration, she transitioned into the role of healthcare analyst, leveraging her wealth of experience to drive data-informed decisions. At Athreya MedTech, Dr. Abbas oversees and improves research strategy, focusing on data analytics to enhance patient outcomes. She supports research teams with data search, ensuring innovative solutions are grounded in robust evidence. Additionally, Dr. Abbas collaborates with institutions to meet their personalized needs. Currently, she partners closely with the Validus Institute, Inc. applying her expertise to support our mission of advancing healthcare innovation and research excellence.

Danesh Khazaei is a PhD scholar in biochemistry at Portland State University, with a multidisciplinary background in organic synthesis, genomics, and bioengineering. He graduated from Linfield University at age 18, becoming the youngest graduate in the institution’s history. At the Validus Institute Inc., Danesh provides essential fundamental science expertise within a team primarily focused on translational research. His role includes assisting with research publications, contributing to grant applications, and serving as an editor on scientific works. Additionally, Danesh is committed to education, having tutored many students in chemistry and biology, and regularly conducting workshops and tutorials to share his expertise.

Adam Tamimi is a fourth-year Public Health student at the University of California, Merced, on the pre-med track. He is passionate about advancing health equity and patient care, with plans to pursue medical school after graduation. Adam’s research background spans innovative preventative care research, clinical volunteering, and health equity. At Validus Institute Inc., Adam supports multiple research projects focused on early cancer detection and innovative therapies. He assists with ultrasound imaging and annotation, trains AI-assisted software for image recognition, and contributes to publications through literature review, writing, and editing. Adam also supports us with research publications and grant application files. His attention to details resulted in him being recognized as a co-author on multiple publications. Adam also volunteers at hospitals and community programs that support children, families, and underserved populations. Through these experiences, he has developed strong skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership, along with a deep commitment to addressing healthcare disparities.

Gabriel Tamimi has been an integral member of Validus Institute Inc. since its founding in 2021. He is a Neuroscience major at UC Riverside, exploring the intersections of Artificial Intelligence, Mechanical Engineering, and Genetic Engineering, driven by a passion for understanding the brain and advancing human health. At Validus Institute, Gabriel plays a key role in developing and refining synthetic breast tissue models within the phantom lab. His creativity and research experience in entomology contribute to improving tissue mimicking and training outcomes. He also supports research publications and because of his creativity and dedication he has earned co-authorship at a young age. Committed to education, Gabriel has tutored students in biology, anatomy, and clinical techniques since high school. He continues to assist the institute by preparing educational materials and helping lead hands-on workshops.
